in the International Rally New York 2010,
the penultimate round of the United States Rally Championship

Forestburgh, New York (August 19, 2010)    A noted Turkish Champion Volkan Isik with codriver Vedat Bostanci have entered the International Rally New York in a Lassa Rally Team Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. Lassa Racing Tyres are the main sponsor of the team.

This motorsport competition will take place on September 10 and 11 in the beautiful southern Catskill Mountains of New York, merely ninety miles northwest of New York City .

The two-day International Rally New York 2010 with 96 miles of special stages is the final round of the United States Rally Championship. Each day is a separate round of the New York Rally Championship.

Volkan Isik started rallying in 1989. He won the Turkish National Championship six times during his career. Volkan competed in nineteen World Rally Championship events with 7th place at 1999 Rally Portugal , 6th place at 1999 China Rally and 10th place at 1998 Acropolis Rally. He won three events of the European Rally Championship and achieved several podium finishes in forty starts.

Lately, Volkan has been involved with Lassa Racing Tyre research and development project. He also trains and develops new rally drivers under his program “First Step to the Rally with Volkan Isik.”

Rally New York , Ltd. (www.RallyNewYork.com), headquartered in Forestburgh , New York , is the organizer and promoter of three National Championship events: Gravel International Rally New York in the fall, tarmac Rally New York USA in the spring and snow New York Winter Rally. Rally New York has been instrumental in introducing reconnaissance of rally route, pace notes and international rules into US rallying since 2004. Rally New York also organizes regional rallies as part of the New York Rally Championship.

The United States Rally Championship (www.usrallychampionship.com) is taking bold steps to make national competition more affordable and accessible to a larger number of rally teams. The United States Rally Championship was the largest rally Championship in the country in the 2009 season with nearly twice as many participants as any other championship. The variety of racing surfaces offered in the Championship – gravel, tarmac and snow – is unparalleled in US rallying. All events of the United States Rally Championship offer full reconnaissance. This is the fourth season of the new Championship structure that minimizes or, for many teams, eliminates the need for repeated cross-country travel during the Championship season by providing competition on each side of the country. The final round of the Championship at the end of the year counts both in the Atlantic Division and the Pacific Division and together with the results from all previous rounds decides the top spots in the Championship.

Sullivan Renaissance Seminar:
COMMUNITY DESIGN TOOLBOX
Ins and Outs of Architectural Review Boards & Design Guidelines

[ FERNDALE ] – How can communities regulate the way new construction looks without being too restrictive? What are the advantages and disadvantages of adopting design guidelines? What is an Architectural Review Board and what does it do? These questions and more will be covered at Sullivan Renaissance’s upcoming “Community Design Toolbox” seminar on Wednesday, September 1 at 7:00 p.m. at the CVI Building in Ferndale .

Willard Schadt’s
Current Paintings at Alliance Gallery

“While my work is inspired by the human face, I do not consider the paintings portraits,” says painter Willard Schadt, whose exhibition of paintings of human facial expressions opens at Alliance Gallery in Narrowsburg on Friday, September 10, with a reception from 7–9 p.m. The exhibit will be on view through October 2.

Schadt was born and raised in Sullivan County, NY before receiving a BA in studio art from Wesleyan University in 1970. He started painting with black and white acrylics in the early 70s. After a long hiatus during which he did not paint, he began again in 2003, now using black and white oils. He was not so much “inspired” to paint again, but instead found that he could no longer not paint.

Schadt’s current oil paintings on view in this, his first gallery exhibit, are reminiscent of line drawings. He starts with photographic studies. “I have many photographs taken of the subject, constantly changing the lighting. These serve as sketches. From these I find my image,” says Schadt. “Each image is its own ‘universe.’ I search for strong graphics serving as portals into that universe as if one were mining for moments.”

Free and open to the public, the exhibit is sponsored by the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, the Arts Council for Sullivan County, NY, and is made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, celebrating 50 years of building strong, creative communities in New York State ’s 62 counties.

Alliance Gallery is located at the Delaware Arts Center at 37 Main Street , Narrowsburg , NY . Hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information about the exhibit call (845) 252-7576 or visit www.ArtsAllianceSite.org.

“Naked Bodies, Naked Souls”
a group exhibit at Loft Gallery

An international array of artists is showing original paintings, sculptures, photographs, and limited edition hand-pulled prints for the first time in the Upper Delaware Valley as part of “Naked Bodies, Naked Souls,” a group exhibit curated by Jan Kapera of JKK Fine Arts. The exhibit will be on view through September 4.

“The realm of ‘Naked Bodies, Naked Souls’ is a very private, personal world; a world of artists’ secrets, dreams, feelings, and deepest emotions,” says curator Kapera. “They have expressed the unexpressed—they have found the way to show spiritual and mystical states of soul in dream-like, symbolic images.”

This exhibit features the work of 16 international artists: Daniel Barkley (Canadian), Luigi Casalino (Italian), Joanna Chrobak (Polish), John Dugdale (American, NYC), Barbara Falender (Polish), Michel Henricot (French), Michael Kuch (American, MA), Tom Misztal (American, OR), Aleksandra Nowak (American, NJ), Darek Nowakowski (American, NYC), Egidijus Rudinskas (Lithuanian), Krzysztof Skorczewski (Polish), Lubomir Tomaszewski (American, CT), David Vance (American, FL), Damian Wojtowicz (Polish), and Piotr Woroniec (Polish).

“’Naked Bodies, Naked Souls’ is not about eroticism, it is about the beauty of the body and the soul,” says Kapera. “It is about human emotions—loves, sorrows, desires and quests, happiness and despair.”

Free and open to the public, the exhibit is sponsored by the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, the Arts Council for Sullivan County, NY

Loft Gallery is located at the Delaware Arts Center at 37 Main Street , Narrowsburg , NY . Hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information about the exhibit call (845) 252-7576 or visit www.ArtsAllianceSite.org.

Call for Artists: Arts Council to Host Open Studios in October

The search is on to find artists to take part in the Open Studio Tour sponsored by the Orange County Arts Council. This year’s Open Studio will include communities in the northern part of Orange County , those above route 84 including the cities of Port Jervis, Middletown and all of Newburgh , during which Orange County artists and craftspeople open their studios to the public for the sale and demonstration of their work on the weekend of October 16-17. Artists from southern Orange County are encouraged to collaborate with artists in the north and share a studio for the weekend. The decision to split the County into two areas was made because the County is so large and it was just not possible to get around to all the studios in one weekend. The 2011 Open Studio will focus on the southern part of the County.

The Orange County Arts Council is producing this unique event for two equally important purposes: to educate the public about the skill and processes that go into the production of craft and art work and to generate sales during and following the event. It is through education that visitors become loyal customers and supporters of art and craft traditions.

Visitors will find their way to Artists Studios by using the Orange County Open Studio Tour Map which locates and contains directions to the studios. The map will be available throughout the county in galleries, local lodging businesses and tourist information centers, and is also on the Arts Council web site. In addition the map will have a shelf life in that studios with regular business hours will be listed for visitors throughout the year.

Special reasons artists may want to participate in Open Studio are if an artist has recently moved to a new location, refurbished a studio, or opened for the first time, use Open Studio to invite neighbors, clients and friends to see the new environment; use the Open Studio as a special event to offer better prices on certain sections of your inventory; or if others are not normally invited into the studio, use this event as a once a year open house. If an artist does not have a space or the studio is inappropriate for visitors, hubs are being established for artists to display and demonstrate their work that weekend. If you are interested in being part of a group, contact the arts council. This is on a first come, first served basis.

The event offers artists an opportunity to make connections that will be stronger and may possibly result in more lucrative relationships than will a typical craft fair or gallery show. Many artists and craftspeople like this type of event because it is different than other sales venues.

The Arts Council is working with Orange County Tourism to promote this event through their Cooperative Advertising Program, putting together weekend and overnight packages, and distribution of save-the-date postcards and tour maps.

On the weekend prior to the Open Studio Tour, October 8-10, there will be a Preview Exhibition where each artist can submit one piece and promotional materials for display. Friday evening will host a Preview Reception (free to the artists) and the Exhibition will continue throughout the weekend, which is the weekend of the Sugar Loaf Arts and Crafts Weekend where thousands of people will pass through Sugar Loaf and have the opportunity to view the exhibit and pick up materials about the Studio Tour. The deadline for submitting an application for the Open Studio is July 23. For information visit the Council website, www.ocartscouncil.org, or call 845-469-9168.

All workshops will take place rain or shine
