Matching Reimbursable Grants Available in Sullivan County
[LIBERTY] – Opportunities for summer residents to enhance the appearance of their properties in Sullivan County are outlined in a new brochure released by Sullivan Renaissance.
“2010 Grants & Programs for Seasonal Communities” describes the programs in detail and provides useful information and tips for communities wishing to participate in the program or simply beautify their own property.
Seasonal communities include second home communities, bungalow colonies and summer camps.
Under its grant program, Sullivan Renaissance provides matching grants for seasonal residents to improve the appearance of their properties with projects that serve as an example for others. Available funding ranges from matching grants up to $2500 to reimbursable mini-grants up to $200.
Eligible projects include: fixing up entranceways and gates, planting flower gardens or other landscaping, removal of old structures and cleaning up dump sites, replacing fencing, upgrading signage, or simply planting flowers in planters or hanging baskets. Improvements are made in areas visible to the public.
“2010 Grants & Programs for Seasonal Communities” has already been mailed to over 80 summer camps in Sullivan County. To receive a copy, contact Richard Sush at 845-295-2441 or rsush@sullivanrenaissance.org.
In 2009 three matching grants were given to bungalow colony and second-home communities, and two mini-grants were awarded to summer camps.
Sullivan Renaissance is a beautification and community development program funded by the Gerry Foundation. Additional funding has been secured by NYS Senator John J. Bonacic and Assemblywoman Aileen M. Gunther.

This free conference will be held at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Sullivan County (64 Ferndale-Loomis Road, Liberty) and refreshments will be served. This conference is open to the public, family caregivers as well as professionals interested in end-of-life issues.
This year’s conference examines care options related to cancer diagnoses as well as loss and grief reactions for patients, families and professional caregivers. It will also examine psychosocial aspects of cancer, pain management, and ethical issues related to the disease.
After viewing Living with Grief®: Cancer and End-of-Life Care, families and professionals will have: improved skills to cope with the transition to hospice and palliative care from curative treatment; be more familiar with the range of physical, psychological and spiritual reactions that people who are dying of cancer may have; and how to respond to these reactions using a variety of approaches and therapies (such as pain management, reminiscence and life review, doula programs, dignity therapy, massage, music and meditation).
Professionals may earn continuing education contact hours (CEs), available through the Hospice Foundation of America. There is a $25 online processing fee per certificate, per participant. The processing fee through the mail with HFA is $35. There is a $10 charge per participant for each additional certificate requested.

Where did all this popcorn come from? From the American People! The Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts went door to door down street alls across America and asked people if they would like to donate $25 of popcorn treats to the troops. And at $25 a pop this many people did.
Who did this? SupportOurTroops.Org, the Boy Scouts of America, and the Trail’s- End Popcorn Company teamed up to pull this off. Said Support Our Troops Chairman Martin C. Boire: “kids, you want to know how to pull off something this huge? Get into Scouting, you’ll get to organize hundreds of things.”
Who manufactured it? - Nothing but the best for our troops! Trail’s-End® popcorn is known as America’s Best Popcorn. What is Happening Locally?
Here in Sullivan County we have not let our commitment to our troops falter. To date we have sent over 22 tons of care packages to our deployed soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan through Operation Support Our Troops led by Stephanie and Craig Johnson. This is not accomplished by working alone - it takes the support and commitment of an entire community.
Sullivan County is very blessed to have wonderful, giving, supportive individuals who give of their time and monetary donations to Operation Support Our Troops!
Our next packing date which will be March 24th and 25th (Wednesday and Thursday) at Monticello Elks Lodge on North Street in Monticello from 5-8. For more info Contact Craig and Stephanie Johnson-Operation Support Our Troops, Sullivan County. e-mail osot2004@aol.com or call 845 796-2339.
